Secondary neurological deficits after a conservatively treated U-shaped sacral fracture

چکیده
Methods The patient, a 60-year-old man, was conscious and haemodynamically stable at admission to the hospital after a car accident in 80 km/h. No neurological deficits were found. CTscan showed a U-shaped fracture of the sacrum in the S2 level and bilateral fracture of the transverse processes in L5. The pelvic ring was intact. The fracture was thus treated conservatively, since there was insignificant dislocation and no neurological symptoms.

[Suicidal jumper's fracture].
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY The characteristics, diagnosis, classification and treatment options of rare fractures of the sacrum known as suicidal jumper's fractures are presented based on six illustrative cases. MATERIAL AND METHODS Jumper's fractures of the sacrum are characterised by an H- or U-shaped fracture line in the upper sacrum, usually involving the S1-S2 region. Typically, the anterior s...
متن کاملLumbopelvic fixation and sacral decompression for a U-shaped sacral fracture: case report.
BACKGROUND U-shaped sacral fractures are highly unstable, can cause significant neurological deficits, lead to progressive deformity and chronic pain if not treated appropriately. OBJECTIVE To report a case of a U-shaped sacral fracture treated with lumbopelvic fixation and decompression of sacral roots in a 23-year-old man. METHOD Decompression of the sacral roots combined with internal re...
متن کاملU-shaped sacral fracture: an easily missed fracture with high morbidity. A report of two cases.
U-shaped sacral fracture is a very rare injury. This injury is easily missed and the diagnosis is often delayed as it is difficult to detect on the anteroposterior view of the pelvic radiograph. It is highly unstable and neurological injury is common. Two cases of U-shaped sacral fractures are reported here in which the diagnosis was delayed resulting in the late development of cauda equina syn...
متن کاملRadiological findings correlate with neurological deficits but not with pain after operatively treated sacral fractures
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Neurological deficits and pain are common after displaced sacral fractures. However, little is known about the association between the long-term clinical outcomes and radiological findings. We examined the long-term radiological findings and their correlations with lumbosacral pain and neurological deficits in the lower extremities after surgery for sacral fractures. ME...

PURPOSE To report results of sacral decompression and lumbopelvic fixation in neurologically impaired patients with highly displaced, comminuted sacral fracture-dislocations resulting in spino-pelvic dissociation. DESIGN Retrospective clinical study. SETTING Regional level one trauma center. PATIENTS Nineteen patients with highly displaced, comminuted, irreducible Roy-Camille type 2-4 sac...
